Dr Groh Named in Top 65 Shoulder Surgeons List
Sunday, Aug 28th, 2011 by Gordon I. Groh MD
(Asheville, N.C.) – Aug. 28, 2011: Local orthopaedic surgeon Gordon I. Groh, M.D., has been named one of the 65 Outstanding Shoulder Surgeons and Specialists in the country by Becker's Orthopedic, Spine & Pain Management Review. Dr. Groh is a board-certified specialist in shoulder, elbow and hand surgery, and has practiced at Blue Ridge Bone & Joint, with offices in Asheville and Hendersonville, for 16 years.
Dr. Groh was one of only five other shoulder surgeons across the Southeast honored with this recognition, selected based on their expertise in shoulder surgery, positions of leadership in professional organizations and institutions, research and development in the field, and their reputation among other physician leaders.
Previously a full-time faculty member and director of shoulder and elbow surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver, Dr. Groh continues to actively pursue research and teaching opportunities, and has presented in every major city in the U.S., as well as in Mexico, Canada and Japan.
In July and August alone, he taught courses on standard and reverse shoulder replacement surgery in Miami, Baltimore and Indianapolis to attendees from across the country. Earlier in the year, he led an educational session at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the preeminent provider of musculoskeletal instruction for orthopaedic surgeons and others in the world, held in San Diego, Calif., with 30,000 attendees. Dr. Groh also served as an appointed member of an education leadership committee for AAOS.
In the past year he has published four scientific papers in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and one in the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
In addition, Dr. Groh is one of only four orthopaedic surgeons in the nation to hold memberships in the professional society, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES), as well as the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. The ASES, open by invitation only, is an educational body of select leading national and international orthopaedic surgeons who specialize in surgery of the shoulder and elbow. It is responsible for the development of scientific programs and the publication of scientific materials. The American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) is the oldest medical specialty society in the United States devoted entirely to continuing medical education related to hand surgery.
Becker's Orthopedic, Spine & Pain Management Review is an online and print publication featuring business, legal, safety and regulatory news and analysis for physicians, group leaders and industry experts. The Becker's editorial team devised the 65 Outstanding Shoulder Surgeons and Specialists list after extensive research and public solicitation for outstanding candidates. The list was also vetted through shoulder specialists from around the country before finalization. Members of the list are often leaders of their groups, winners of prestigious research awards and team physicians for professional athletes. Each member of the list underwent rigorous review before inclusion as an outstanding specialist in the field of shoulder surgery.
