Dr. Allen graduated from the University of North Carolina Asheville Honors program with a Bachelor in Arts in Biology. She received her medical degree with Highest Honors from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC. She completed her internship and residency at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. She also completed her fellowship in Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Reconstruction at Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, MD. She specializes in Foot & Ankle Surgery. She is a member of the American Medical Association.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
2008-present Research assistant to Dr. Lew Schon, Director of Foot and Ankle Reconstruction, Union Memorial Hospital. Developing a biomechanical model to test the efficacy of the abductor hallucis tendon transfer in the treatment of hallux varus in the cadaver model.
2005-2006 Research assistant to Dr. John Birkedal, Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Experience included development of an IRB protocol to perform an outcome analysis regarding operative verses nonoperative treatment of thoracolumbar burst fractures.
2005-2008 Research assistant to Dr. Robert Teasdall, Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Experience included describing the technique of navicular fixation. Constructed and recruited for a study involving the use of total contact casting with the use of vacuum assisted closure for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers.
2001-2008 Research assistant to Dr. William Ward, Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Experience involved constructing a multicenter retrospective study database of osteosarcoma patients in North Carolina with particular focus on prognostic factors and therapeutic considerations.
1996-1997 Research assistant to Dr. Roel Schaaper, Senior Investigator, Molecular Genetics Laboratory, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Experience included exploring the role of the ndk gene of E. coli in maintaining high fidelity replication in wild-type strains, those deficient in mismatch repair, and strains with a constitutive SOS response.
