Jay C. Jansen, M.D.

Dr. Jay Jansen is a sports medicine fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon at Blue Ridge Bone and Joint Clinic. His surgical focus is arthroscopic treatment of joint disorder, soft tissue reconstructive procedures of the knee, shoulder, and elbow as well as comprehensive knee surgery.

Dr. Jansen graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Indiana University. He graduated with honors (Alpha Omega Alpha) from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, IN. He completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA. Dr. Jansen went on to complete a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama under the direction of Dr. James Andrews and Dr. William Clancy.

Dr. Jansen is the team physician for multiple local colleges and high schools. Besides his involvement with high level athletes, his focus is to enable people of all ages and abilities to maintain an active lifestyle which includes injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Dr. Jansen on Evening Rounds

Dr. Jay Jansen, one of the two fellowship trained sports medicine and general orthopedic physicians at Blue Ridge Bone & Joint’s Asheville office recently appeared on WCQS radio’s (88.1 FM) Evening Rounds with David Hurrand.  During the October 26, 2010 meeting Dr. Jansen talked with Mr. Hurrand and his audience about orthopedic sports medicine and athletes from the weekend warrior to the professional athletes.

Dr. Jansen Presents at County Meeting

Dr. Jay Jansen, one of the two fellowship trained sports medicine and general orthopedic physicians at Blue Ridge Bone & Joint’s Asheville office recently attended the Buncombe County administrative team meeting.  At the October 21, 2010 meeting Dr. Jansen presented on the subject of sports nutrition, hydration and performance to Buncombe County athletic coaches.  Dr. Jansen characterized the meeting as an excellent opportunity to continue to expand the coaches’ knowledge about sports medicine and oversight management of their athletes.

BRBJ Important Notice

Hydrocodone-Combination Medications



Because of new Federal Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, Blue Ridge Bone and Joint (BRBJ) staff and physicians will no longer be allowed to phone in hydrocodone-combination medications. While not a complete list, the more familiar medications included in the new FDA changes are:

  • Hydrocodone - any combination
  • Norco
  • Vicodin

Pharmacists will no longer be permitted to contact physicians for refills for these medications. Patients will be required to present a prescription to the pharmacist for these medications.

Patients must request these prescription refills from BRBJ before 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (excludes holidays). BRBJ staff will require a signature from whoever is picking up the prescription.
