Dr. Angelo Cammarata, one of the three hand, elbow, shoulder fellowship trained physicians at Blue Ridge Bone & Joint, recently attended the September 2009 American Society for Surgery of the Hand annual meeting in San Francisco, CA. Dr. Cammarata characterized the meeting as an excellent opportunity to receive an update about the current knowledge and techniques associated with the care of orthopedic hand, elbow and shoulder issues.

Dr. David Napoli, the only fellowship trained hand, elbow, shoulder physician at Blue Ridge Bone & Joint’s Hendersonville office, attended the September 2009 American Society for Surgery of the Hand annual meeting in San Francisco, CA. Dr. Michael Shea, the only fellowship trained sports medicine family practice physician at Blue Ridge Bone & Joint, recently attended the American Society for Sports Medicine annual meeting in Las Vegas, NV. Dr. Shea describes the meeting as an excellent opportunity to advance his skills in the management of musculoskeletal and medical concerns in athletes.

Dr. Myron Smith III, one of the five Asheville based joint replacement specialists at Blue Ridge Bone & Joint attended the April 2009 Birmingham Hip Resurfacing training in Charlotte, NC. Dr. Smith characterizes the training as one which provided certification training in the Birmingham hip resurfacing procedure.

Dr. Gordon Groh recently served as sole faculty for a surgical training session on advanced arthroscopic shoulder reconstruction at the DaVinci Center, in Miami. At the conference, Groh served as faculty for a surgical skills instructional course on reverse shoulder replacement. He also presented two scientific papers at the meeting; one on dislocation of the clavicle from the breast bone and the other on snapping scapula, a condition that is a common source of shoulder pain.

Dr. Stephen David, one of the two fellowship trained spine surgeons at Blue Ridge Bone & Joint, attended the North American Spine Society’s annual meeting in Toronto, Canada this past October. The meeting not only provided Dr. David the opportunity of interacting with spine surgeons from around the United States but also the experience of being updated about the most recent advances in spine medicine and spine surgery treatment approaches.

Dr. Michael Goebel, one of the three fellowship trained spine surgeons at Blue Ridge Bone & Joint, recently successfully completed his American Board of Orthopedic Surgery recertification. This certification is valid for ten years from 2010 to 2020.

Dr. Edward Lilly III joined AM 1450 WHKP radio on Medical Monday where he talked with Larry Freeman for about an hour on new trends in hip and knee replacement surgery.

Dr. Michael Goebel, one of the three fellowship trained spine surgeons at Blue Ridge Bone & Joint, recently gave a free presentation to sixty-five Asheville area residents on the subject “Oh My Aching Back.” The opportunity provided Dr. Goebel with an excellent forum to interact with Asheville area residents. He reviewed the causes of back pain and various relevant treatment options available for individuals affected by back pain.

Dr. Peter Mangone, one of the two foot and ankle fellowship trained physicians at Blue Ridge Bone & Joint, recently attended the July 2009 American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) meeting. Dr. Mangone characterizes the meeting as an excellent learning experience as he served as a co-moderator of the AOFAS coding symposium attended by over one hundred participants.

Dr. Stephen David has completed one hundred and twenty (120) hours of continuing orthopedic education this year as part of his preparation for his ten (10) year renewal of board certification by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
