The sources of joint pain can vary widely, and the degree and kind of pain can look different for each patient. From arthritis to joint degeneration, joint pain limits a person’s potential for an active and healthy lifestyle. It is important to receive the appropriate care when other conservative measures, such as medication, do not provide adequate relief for the hip or knee.
At EmergeOtho: Blue Ridge Region, we are committed to implementing and maintaining the most advanced technologies. For this reason, we are proud to offer joint replacement using Mako SmartRobotics as an innovative and effective solution for those suffering from hip or knee arthritis. Our Mako expert, fellowship-trained joint replacement surgeon Dr. Philip Fontenot, has undergone extensive specialty training in robotic and navigation-assisted hip and knee surgeries. He specializes in assessing, diagnosing, and treating hip- and knee-related injuries and conditions with Mako SmartRobotics.
If you are experiencing osteoarthritis or degenerative joint disease, you may be a candidate for total knee, total hip, or partial knee replacement with Mako SmartRobotics. Dr. Fontenot will recommend the necessary plan of action, based on the condition of your joints.
How It Works
Mako SmartRobotics is used in preoperative planning to provide Dr. Fontenot with a 3D model of your anatomy and during the procedure to assist him in precision and accuracy.
In preoperative planning, Mako allows Dr. Fontenot to create a personalized joint replacement plan to follow during the surgery. The 3D CT-based planning software gives him the ability to predefine the boundaries of your joint replacement operation. When it is time for the procedure, Mako’s AccuStop™ technology will assist Dr. Fontenot in remaining in those boundaries.
Mako SmartRobotics does not make any decision on its own or move without Dr. Fontenot’s guidance. Dr. Fontenot performs the surgery and uses the robotic arm to help position the implant.
We are dedicated to providing each patient with the exceptional total joint care they deserve. If you would like to learn more about Mako SmartRobotics or discuss your options with Dr. Fontenot, please call us at (828) 258-8800 or request an appointment online.
